Boulder Opera Presents:

Operatizers: Tastes of Opera

Experience the rich tapestry of North American operatic storytelling with our program of short operas. Delve into the uncertainty of dating, the complexities of unhappily married couples, the turmoil of a conflicted bride, and the intricate dynamics of romantic relationships. Join us at Boulder Opera Company as we bring these captivating tales to life through music, drama, and emotion.

Avow by Mark Adamo - Avow imagines a conflicted bride, her avid mother, the haunted groom, the ghost of his father, and a celebrant
who really should make better efforts to remember which ceremony he’s performing.

At the Statue of Venus by Jake Heggie - An attractive woman waits in a museum by the statue of the goddess of love to meet a man she has never seen before. Will he like her? Will she like him? We all know Mr. Right doesn't exist - or does he?

A Hand of Bridge by Samuel Barber - The opera consists of two unhappily married couples playing a hand of bridge, during which each character has an arietta in which he or she professes his or her inner desires.

Gallantry by Douglas Moore - A parody of Hospital soap operas with commercial interruptions.

Spare Room with a Shag Rug by local composer Ilan Blank -   a Spanish tutor helps a student connect with her family history through writing a letter to her grandma. Written in English and Spanish (with a touch of Yiddish), the story pays homage to the composer’s own Mexican-Jewish heritage.
