Who Are Voice Lessons For?

Our voice lessons are designed for anyone with a desire to sing children ages 12+ who want a playful introduction to music and confidence-building, teens seeking support for choir, musical theatre, auditions, and healthy technique through voice change, and adults of all levels, from beginners to returning singers exploring classical, opera, musical theatre, or crossover styles. If you have a voice, you have an instrument and we’ll help you use it well.

Meet Our Faculty

Dianela Acosta

DIANELA ACOSTA, MEZZO SOPRANO

Boulder, CO (In-person & Online)

Dianela Acosta is a classically trained singer, voice teacher, and the Founder and Executive Director of Boulder Opera Company. She has performed extensively in New York City, with The Amato Opera and Dicapo Opera Theatre, appearing in La Cenerentola, Carmen, Madama Butterfly, and The Magic Flute. In Colorado she has toured with Central City Opera and sings locally with Boulder Opera.

With over 30 years of teaching experience, Dianela is deeply committed to developing healthy, expressive voices at every stage. Her teaching emphasizes efficient breath support, balanced vocal production, and the development of a beautiful, free tone, grounded in classical technique. She works with singers across styles, including classical, opera, and musical theatre, helping students build both technical confidence and artistic individuality.

Dianela holds a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Italian from Hunter College (NYC). She maintains a private voice studio in Boulder, where she works with teens and adults, from beginners to advanced singers.

ELLEN MOELLER, MEZZO SOPRANO

Boulder, CO (In-home studio)

Currently, Ellen sings professionally with Ars Nova Singers (Boulder), Temple Sinai (Denver), and Opera Colorado (Denver). She is the Music Director for Rocky Mountain Revels (Boulder), the Director of the EDEN-Colorado project, and a private voice and piano teacher.

JULIANNE DAVIS, SOPRANO

Longmont, CO (In-person & Online)

Julianne Davis, a dramatic coloratura soprano based in Longmont, is a frequent performer with Boulder Opera. She has also appeared with the Boulder Chorale, Longmont Symphony Orchestra, Bronx Opera in New York, and the Messiah Festival of the Arts in Kansas. Equally at home in smaller venues, she is a frequent recitalist and enjoys performing with the vocal trio, Prima. With a heart for teaching and degrees to back it up, she has taught music in public school, colleges, private studio voice and piano, church choirs, and even homeschool groups while her three children were little. She strives to help students of all ages connect to their breath, grow their confidence, and discover their voice.

LARISA CAPATINA AND VITALI MIHAILIUC (LET'S PRACTICE! ACADEMY), PIANO

Let’s Practice! Music Academy was founded by Larisa and Vitali, concert pianists and passionate music educators. Based in Castle Rock, Colorado, they provide piano-focused music education that blends strong musical foundations with creativity, performance, and joyful learning. From young beginners to advanced students, they aim to build confidence, musicality, and a lifelong love of music. Their goal is to make music one of the most meaningful and inspiring parts of a child’s growth.

Performance Opportunities

As part of the Boulder Opera community, students may have opportunities to:

  • Perform in studio recitals

  • Experience opera and classical music up close through our productions - Sing in the Chorus and smaller roles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience to start?
No. We work with absolute beginners through advanced singers. All levels are welcome.

What styles do you teach?
Classical, opera, musical theatre, art song, and crossover styles. Our priority is healthy technique that can adapt to many genres.

How old should my child be to begin voice lessons?
Every child is different, but we generally recommend starting around age 7–8. For younger children, we may suggest a short evaluation or a more playful, music-discovery approach.

Can I do online lessons?
Yes. We offer online lessons for students who prefer to learn from home or live outside Boulder.
