La Traviata & Faust | 2026–2027 Season
Boulder Opera Company is seeking a collaborative and imaginative Stage Director for upcoming productions of Verdi’s La Traviata (Nov 14th and 15th, 2026 Gounod’s Faust April 2,3,4th- 2027. as part of our 15th season and continued artistic growth.
Founded in 2012, Boulder Opera is a dynamic and growing regional opera company dedicated to making opera accessible, community-centered, and artistically compelling. Our productions balance high musical standards with an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong commitment to audience development, education, and sustainability.
We are looking for a director who:
thrives in a collaborative, flexible environment,
enjoys creating impactful storytelling within realistic production resources,
is solutions-oriented and communicative,
works well with emerging and established artists alike,
and is excited to help shape meaningful opera experiences for diverse audiences.
The Stage Director will work closely with the Executive/Artistic Director, Music Director, production team, and designers to develop productions that are theatrically engaging, emotionally resonant, and achievable within the company’s production framework and budget.
Responsibilities include:
Developing the staging and dramatic concept for each production
Leading rehearsals and working collaboratively with singers and staff
Collaborating with production/design teams within approved budgets and timelines
Participating in production meetings and planning discussions
Helping foster a positive, respectful, and supportive rehearsal environment
Ideal candidates will have:
Experience directing opera or music theater
Strong collaborative and communication skills
Comfort working in an intimate regional opera environment
Creative problem-solving abilities and adaptability
Appreciation for Boulder Opera’s mission of accessibility and community engagement
These productions will feature professional singers and chamber/orchestra forces in intimate venues, emphasizing storytelling, musicality, and connection with audiences.

Board members are responsible for providing leadership support to the Boulder Opera.The Boulder Opera is committed to making opera accessible, inspiring and engaging to the community with a focus of bringing people of all ages to our shows, and to support diverse artists and communities. Our goal is to develop new audiences for this old art form, enrich the lives of our community, and provide opportunity to local musicians.
We are looking for board members with business, development and marketing skills.

Board Member Responsibilities:
Adhering to the mission and purpose of the organization
Strategic and organizational planning
Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
Approving and monitoring Boulder Opera programs and services
Being an ambassador for Boulder Opera
Boulder Opera Board Member Expectations:
Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
Faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements
Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for Boulder Opera to advance its mission
Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the Boulder Opera’s mission
Give a meaningful personal financial donation – $1,000 suggested annual minimum
Help identify a personal connection that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in monthly board meetings
Participate fully in at least one board committee
Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolution.
